THE GHASTLY LOVE OF JOHNNY X opens for a limited engagement at Laemmle Theatres on May 17th !

LAEMMLE THEATRES is setting the stage to bring THE GHASTLY LOVE OF JOHNNY X to the MUSIC HALL 3 in Beverly Hills—9036 Wilshre Blvd. and the PLAYHOUSE 7 in Pasadena—673 East Colorado Blvd. on Friday, May 17, 2013 !!

Laemmle Playhouse

Exiled from their home world to that most uncool of hangouts, the planet Earth, Johnny and his cats try to make the best of it.  Things change, though, when Johnny's fed-up femme fatale girlfriend steals his Resurrection Suit—a dastardly piece of alien technology capable of controlling other people's bodies.  And when a down-on-his-luck rock 'n' roll promoter needs the suit to reanimate his main act, a suddenly deceased hip-shaker named Mickey O'Flynn, the chase is on.

This retro-tastic song-lined tribute to old school drive-in B-movies is crowded with cult stars, including Troma favorite Will Keenan, Creed Bratton (The Office), Reggie Bannister (Phantasm), Kate Maberly (The Secret Garden), and singer-songwriter Paul Williams (Paul Williams Still Alive).

Director PAUL BUNNELL didn't expect to make motion picture history when JOHNNY X became the last feature to be shot on Kodak's 35mm black-and-white Plus-X film stock—and it's not the only historically significant element in the movie.  It also boasts the last screen appearance of the late Kevin McCarthy, star of perhaps the best-loved (and black-and-white) 1950s sci-fi film, Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

THE GHASTLY LOVE OF JOHNNY X is a truly mad concoction—the only sci-fi dark comedy musical romance you need to see this year!

CBS Oscar Sunday Morning was a GHASTLY love affair !

"Oscar excitement builds in Hollywood for nominees like directors Steven Spielberg and Ang Lee. But for director Paul Bunnell, not so much. His movie wasn't even nominated.

In fact, his movie has gained notoriety for having the lowest box office take of 2012, making just $117 during a one-week release in Kansas.

"The Ghastly Love of Johnny X," a musical, is described by its creator as "a juvenile delinquent outer space on Earth-type . . . intergalactic dark horror sci-fi comedy with melodramatic moments." Bill Geist has a front row seat . . ."

Bill Geist
has been a correspondent for "CBS News Sunday Morning" since he joined CBS News in 1987.  He chronicles some of the quirkiest people and places in America for the broadcast.

In addition to the two Emmys, he has won many awards for his work as a humorist, commentator and reporter in television, newspapers and magazines.  Geist seems most proud, however, of taking third in the Illinois State Fair Bake Off in 1979.

Director Paul Bunnell talks about The Ghastly Love of Johnny X and the challenges of making the last feature shot on Eastman Kodak's discontinued Plus-X 5231 film—a legendary stock used to make iconic black-and-white movies like Raging Bull and Schindler's List.

"Black-and-White was the right look for this film, there was no other way to go.  You get lost in a dream and it's just a beautiful thing."
